Question

The devil prevents me from doing anything good and is always driving me towards obscenity. What should I do?


Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Dear brother, it is important that you know that the plot of the devil is very weak as Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {The plot of Satan has ever been weak.} [Quran 4:76] Moreover, the devil has no power over the believer for Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, there is for him no authority over those who have believed and rely upon their Lord. His authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who through him associate others with Allaah.} [Quran 16: 99-100] 

Therefore, it is man himself who either grants the devil power over him by yielding to his commands, or drives him away by seeking refuge in Allaah The Almighty from him, taking a shield in the remembrance of Allaah The Almighty, observing acts of obedience, avoiding sins and evil deeds and striving against one’s own self to keep on doing all this.
