Public Schools: Who's Giving Who the Da'wah?

Allah Ta'ala says what means,

"O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are appointed angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded." (Surah At - Tahrim: 6)

Recent statistics show that almost 95% of all Muslim youth in America attend public schools. Alongside English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, Muslim youth are learning to deal with drugs, intermingling, premarital sex relationships, altering of Islamic dress codes, peer pressure to 'fit and blend' in, and the overall lack of having an Islamic environment to be educated in!

Education and Muslim youth is such a serious problem especially for young Muslimahs today. In so many cases through out the country we have seen and heard about how the "hunt" of "education" that many of the Muslim youth have taken on have lead them clearly astray! As Ka'b ibn Maalik al Baghdaadee, (RAA), relates that the Prophet (SAWS) said: "Two hungry wolves let loose among sheep are not more harmful then a person craving after wealth and status is to his Deen (Religion)."(Imam Ahmad, an - Nasaa'ee and Tirmidhee said its isnad is hasan)

By high school this attitude of fame, wealth and 'getting yours' has been embedded deeply in the minds of the youth. Although, there is not nearly enough Islamic schools to cater to the growing population of the Muslims, we are now seeing a slight increase of Muslim home schoolers! Allhumdulilah, home schooling is an excellent option but for those young Muslims already in the public school system many Muslim parents have had a hard time getting them to leave.

So now the question must be asked - Who's giving who the dawah?? If hanging with non Muslims basically all day, missing salat, altering your modesty to match the Kaffir clothing style, or taking off or never putting on a hijab was defined as 'getting through' the public school system, would you then let your daughter, sister, or friend gamble with their Deen?

The Public school system is not set up for the rearing of Muslim children in any aspect! As young Muslims, it's really important that we stay focused on our ultimate goal - the Akhira -! If you are in public school - pick your non-Muslim friends wisely and keep your actual 'chill' time with them to a minimum!
